My journey

Journaling: Ah, the travel bug... It has bitten me and bitten me solidly! This picture was taken on my second trip to Europe, in June 2010. Admittedly, it was totally different from my first trip (in 2008) but just as exciting! I could just wander around in another country for ages, experiencing and observing their way of life. Although I've just finished paying off my poor credit card, I hope the next trip won't be in the too distant future!

Obnoxious Manneken

Journaling: While visiting Brussels, we had the pleasure of experiencing a “dressing ceremony” for the (in)famous manneken. While the crowd had their eyes trained on the real manneken, this little guy was busily squirting water at unsuspecting people! And just look at his obnoxious caregiver...

Dover Beach

~I remember we studied the poem Dover Beach in high school, and I couldn't help thinking of this while on the ferry across the English Channel! ~

Poem: Dover Beach by Matthew Arnold (1867)
The sea is calm tonight, The tide is full, the moon lies fair
Upon the straits; on the French coast the light
Gleams and is gone; the cliffs of England stand,
Glimmering and vast, out in the tranquil bay.
Come to the window, sweet is the night air!
Only, from the long line of spray
Where the sea meets the moon-blanched land,
Listen! you hear the grating roar
Of pebbles which the waves draw back, and fling,
At their return, up the high strand,
Begin, and cease, and then again begin,
With tremulous cadence slow, and bring
The eternal note of sadness in.

Crossing the road (Boys Only!)

08/04/2008
Journaling: How did the chicken cross the road? ...by using the underground walkway from the Champs-Elysees, of course! Only we didn’t know about that.. We stood there pondering how to get across the road to inspect the Arc de Triomphe a little closer. After a few minutes we already decided that everyone under the Arc were surely going to sleep there, because traffic wasn’t letting up. But then we found the walkway...luckily...

Arriving in Paris (Pretty in the City)

Ons hotel was ook net so 'n blok of wat vanaf Moulin Rouge.

Ek het hierdie bladsy vir 'n speedscrap by
Stuff to Scrap gemaak, met die lieflike Pretty in the City van Christy Skaggs.

~We got on a train in Germany on the morning of 07/04/08, and started the long journey to Paris. We even saw snow along the way! We arrived in Paris at about 21:30, and had a lot of fun searching for and on the underground trains! Then we got off at Blanche station, overlooking the (in)famous Moulin Rouge! What a sight... Our hotel was also just a block or so from Moulin Rouge.

I made this page using the lovely Pretty in the City by Christy Skaggs, in a fun speed scrap hosted at Stuff to Scrap. ~

The Blue Bag (Kick Back & Relax)

My ma s'n, wat so swaar gelaai was met waterbottels, kamera's, serpe en ander dinge, dat my pa dit meestal moes dra.
Journaling: We visited Heidelberg, Germany today. Once again a very cold day, but the main joke of the day was...The Blue Bag...And especially the fact that my dad was mostly caught carrying it! To his big dismay I might add...
~We were very excited to see Heidelberg, Germany, because we live in Heidelberg, South Africa. Nearly got frostbite again, but it was nice to see! We ate at a schnitzel haus, where you could choose from more than 101 schnitzels! The biggest joke was the blue handbag. My mom's, filled to the brim with water bottles, cameras and scarves. It ended up being so heavy that my dad had to carry it most of the time! ~

Hollywood and beyond...

~Here are two non-Europe LO's and another Rome one that I made in between...~

~In 2005 I had the privilege to visit LA (and thus Hollywood) and San Francisco.~

Journaling:

I had so much fun running up and down Hollywood Boulevard. My favourite star of all was obviously Marilyn Monroe’s and needless to say, I had to pose with it! I couldn’t believe that I was actually in Hollywood, seeing the Kodak theatre with the hand-and footprints, Walk of Fame and Hollywood sign.

Rothenburg

Journaling:
05/04/2008 Today Hannes and Ina took us to see the old city of Rothenburg. What a lot of history! I loved the half-timber buildings that could be seen everywhere. We even went to the war museum, where we had a look at the “folterkamer” - scary! But all in all it was an enjoyable day!
